Raspberry Pi Foundation Merges With CoderDojo

Two organizations working to get kids interested in engineering are coming together.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation, maker of the seize with teeth-sized Raspberry Pi computer, on Friday appear it is merging with the CoderDojo Foundation, a global network of coding clubs for kids ages 7 to 17. In a statement, Raspberry Pi Foundation CEO Philip Colligan said the motion will "give many more than young people all over the world new opportunities to learn how to be creative with technology."

CoderDojo founders James Whelton and Bill Liao formed their first order where immature people could go to learn programming skills in 2022 at the National Software Heart in Cork, Republic of ireland. Since then, the idea has taken off. There are now more than 1,250 CoderDojos in 69 countries serving more than 35,000 kids and teens. Some 9,000 volunteers around the earth support the movement.

The collaboration comes later the Raspberry Pi foundation in 2022 joined forces with Code Guild, some other organization running costless coding clubs for kids.

"Raspberry Pi and CoderDojo have each accomplished amazing things over the last 6 years," Colligan wrote. "Now, we meet an opportunity to do even more past joining forces. Bringing together Raspberry Pi, Code Club, and CoderDojo volition create the largest global attempt to become young people involved in computing and digital making."

By joining forces, they hope to quadruple the number of CoderDojos worldwide to five,000 by the end of the decade.

As for logistics, the CoderDojo Foundation will keep every bit an contained clemency based in Ireland.
